4 Spring Cleaning Tips

With spring underway, our thoughts here at McCarron Lake Chiropractic turn to the safety of our patients. Spring cleaning can take a toll on your body, especially when your body is not used to doing the repetitive tasks that come along with more intense cleaning. The following are reminders for achieving the deep clean you want while reducing the non-safe stresses on your body.Old lady cleaning in spring

Things to remember

1. Break up the job into manageable parts.

Do not rush when you are tired or in a hurry. The best thing to do when your body is exhausted and fatigued is to take a small break, drink a glass of water, cool down, and rest. If you remember to do this your body does not overcompensate and strain a muscle.

2. Use proper lifting techniques when moving any piece of furniture or appliance.

Lift with your legs, keep your back straight and the item as close to your chest as possible (center of gravity).

3. Support the muscles in your back

When on a ladder, keep your belly button between the sides of the ladder to support the muscles in your back. Do not lean too far to either side.

4. Make multiple trips instead of carrying too much at once

Make multiple trips instead of carrying too much at once, especially when going up and down stairs. This allows you to have control as well as stay in a proper upright position. Leaning backward with a heavy load out front puts stress on the structures in the spinal column which can lead to leg and back pain. Also in case you lose your footing, lighter items falling on you or your home will cause less damage!
